Background information: 1 I have been a volunteer for over 10 years. I started to be a volunteer as early as in 1979! 2 I participated in different kinds of volunteer services. In recent years, I visited patients in hospitals and helped out in community centre. I also helped out in the election. 3 The most impressive service was a concern visit at the Cheung Chau Hospital. We met many aged who have been in the hospital for a long time. At first, we did not know what to talk about. Later on, I found them all to be friendly and willing to share. May be you think that it is not a big deal for a volunteer to listen to others. However, it means a lot to those who stay in the hospital for a long time. Your patience and care are so valuable that the patients there treasure very much. Interview questions: 1 In fact, I was hospitalized for about 2-3 weeks. It was so boring. I fully understand the feeling as a patient. I am eager to visit and chat with them again. I am sure that volunteer service makes people come closer. 2 Well, it's a matter of time management! Even though I use my time to do volunteer work, I still find time for shopping and going to cinema. Being a volunteer would not upset your schedule for other hobbies! When you are a volunteer, you are not giving out. On the contrary, you gain a lot. For example, you can strengthen your interpersonal skills and have different exposures to the community. It's worthy to do so! 3 I work in a telecommunication company in Hong Kong. Because of the job nature, I find myself and some of my colleagues do not have much opportunity to meet other people. The interpersonal relationship become weaker in the age of information technology. Volunteer work is the best way to build up human touch again. It is the most powerful and direct means to express your care and concern to others. Background information 1 I have participated volunteer service since joining my company's volunteer team, which was set up around a year ago. 2 I participated in several volunteer service projects including concern visits to the elderly, the teenagers and the hospitals. 3 I remember the visit to the people with severe grade mentally and/or physically disability at the Caritas Hospital. As I have never met these service targets, the visit was memorable. Though with great limitations in daily life and mental and physical disabilities, they were so excited to see us visiting them. Just by looking at their cheerful eyes, I found the passion to visit and serve them again! Interview questions: 1 When you saw how happy the service targets were, you would find it worthy to spend your time with them. They moved me and I felt full of joy. 2 We usually schedule our services at weekends. I think it is not a hard job to allocate time for volunteer service especially when you realize that is something meaningful and worthy to do. On the other hand, I think the support from the company is also very important. I am working for a property management company. My seniors are supportive. They provide us with the flexibility in adjusting the work schedule to facilitate our preparation for volunteer service. 3 I encourage my friends and colleagues to join volunteer service by sharing my joyful and happy experiences in volunteer service with them. Our volunteer team also posts the pictures on the intranet so that all our colleagues can share our moments. Our company also arranges some volunteer training courses for us. I think that the best way to persuade others to join volunteering is to invite them to join a service so that they can feel the impact through the process and experience in serving others.
