Hong Kong Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony 2008

Year of 2008 is the 10th Anniversary of Volunteer Movement. In the Hong Kong Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony cum Finale of Volunteer Movement 10th Anniversary, Mrs. Selina TSANG, Wife of the Chief Executive / Volunteer-in-chief encouraged the public to keenly participate in volunteering and join hands to build up a harmonious society. With great effort by Hong Kong citizens, there were a total of 795,695 volunteers and 1,846 organizations registered with Volunteer Movement by the end of October, 2008. The accumulated volunteer service hour for the Year of 2007 had been over 19 millions.

The Ceremony was successfully held at IVE (Morrison Hill) on 6 December 2008 so as to recognize the volunteers¡¦ contribution to the society.  We were mostly honour to have Mrs Selina TSANG, Wife of the Chief Executive / Volunteer-in-chief and Mr. Stephen FISHER, JP, the Director of Social Welfare officiated at the Ceremony and commended the winning teams and volunteers including Long Service Medal Awardees, Awardees of Highest Service Hour Award (Individual / Public Organization / Private Organization) in 2007. The Steering Committee on Promotion of Volunteer Service took the opportunities to appreciate the concerted effort from various volunteers and organizations. We profoundly wish the public to dedicate themselves towards volunteering continuously.

With full support from various corporate, community organizations, non-governmental organizations etc, there were over 600 guests attending the Ceremony. The band performance of Fukien Secondary School enchanted the Ceremony with joy and happiness. The ¡§Volunteer for a Harmonious Hong Kong Gimmick¡¨ and ¡§Kick off of TVAPIs¡¨ also encouraged all citizens¡¦ contribution in volunteer service and family volunteering.

Way Forward

Year of 2009 is coming, the Steering Committee wishes for a remarkable growth in volunteering. Apart from promoting family volunteering, we also encourage the family volunteers to invite more relatives and neighbors to join hands and help the needy in society.
