Volunteer Work Moving with the Trend
In the age of information technology, PCCW Limited established the first IT Volunteer Team in Hong Kong.  Its objectives are to enhance the popularity of information technology and to bridge up the digital divide.  Their volunteers reach out to people from different sectors, including housewives and elderly, to teach them computer usage and surf on the web.  The PCCW volunteers not only make use of their knowledge to serve others but also meet the community's need on understanding more about information technology.   
In the past two years, PCCW IT Volunteer Team has established network and partnership with many different social service organizations.  They have equipped grassroot community, people with hearing impairment and their family members and the elderly with computer knowledge.  They use the one-on-one approach in their training service which helps the learners to build up confident in using computers. 
To sum up, this volunteer service has the following characteristics:
1	Each volunteer can make use of his or her own knowledge to serve others.  With a clear teaching objective, the volunteers can easily handle their tasks with confidence.
2	Volunteers can have immediate feedback and satisfaction by seeing the learners' progress in using computer which in turn motivates them to serve again.  This is indeed particularly crucial for first timer in volunteer service. 
3	This sort of service can be arranged for people coming from different age groups and backgrounds.  Volunteers themselves can expand their life horizon through meeting these people.
4	As the format of teaching is one-on-one basis, volunteers can join the service with great flexibility.  
5	With the support from the company, volunteers can make use of the existing facilities of the company for training, briefing and teaching activities.  It hence saves much of the time and energy in administrative and liaison work.

隨著資訊科技普及化的趨勢，電訊盈科在2001年成立了全港第一隊企業 I.T.義工隊，目標是要普及資訊科技的應用及減低數碼隔膜。他們的義工深入社會各階層，協助不懂電腦及上網的市民學習應用電腦。當中，家庭主婦、家長和長者都是他們的主要服務對象。他們的義工不但利用一己之長服務大眾，同時亦回應了社區人士對了解資訊科技的需要。
過去兩年，電訊盈科  I.T. 義工隊更與不同的社會服務團體建立夥伴關係，使草根階層、聾人及他們的家人、長者等掌握電腦知識。義工們以個別教授的方式，使受助人士更容易學習及建立對使用電腦的信心。
總括經驗，這項義工服務具有以下的特點：
1	義工都是運用本身既有的知識於服務中，只需清楚訂定每次教授目標，就可應付自如及更具信心。
2 	當看見受助人士能即時學以致用，對初次擔任義工的同事來說，可有重要的鼓勵作用，使他們更容易投入將來的義工服務。
3 	這項義工服務能安排給予不同階層及年紀的人，義工們可藉此增加生活體驗。
4 	以個別教授的方式推行服務，義工們可彈性及靈活地參與服務。
5 	由於得到公司的支持，一些訓練、簡介及教授活動可運用公司已有的設施，大大節省安排義工活動的同事花在行政和籌備工作上的時間和精神。
