Campaign Evergreen 2003

Hong Kong people have been seriously cast down by the economic downturn and outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in the past few months. Facing the crisis, members of the community acted positively to overcome the difficulties while volunteers also demonstrated the spirit of mutual care and support to help the disadvantaged groups. Despite the unpleasantness, people realized the importance of the unity and value of life.

Different sectors are now pacing to rebuild the community as the epidemic has been placed under control, the Steering Committee on Promotion of Volunteer Service take this opportunity to uphold the spirit of "Campaign Evergreen" launched in 2002 and bring into Campaign Evergreen 2003 which aims at sustaining the spirit of volunteerism, helping those in adversity to combat the difficulties and calling for cross-sectors collaboration to rebuild Hong Kong. The Committee adopts the heart-shaped evergreen leaf as the logo which symbolizes the volunteers' care and loving hearts in helping our fellow citizens to go through difficulties and face life challenges.

A theme programme of "Campaign Evergreen 2003" was held on 2 August 2003 at Metropolis Mall in Hung Hom. Meanwhile, the following major activities and competitions will be launched in the territory to further the message of volunteering to the public:

The 13 District Coordinating Committees on Promotion of Volunteer Service and Volunteer Movement Participating Organizations will organize respective activities to promote the spirit of Campaign Evergreen to every corner of the territory. (in Chinese)
