Sharing my volunteering experience

I didn't consider being a volunteer until I was in the first year of University. I was a clerk, duties were creating posters, filing, searching for update information at the Career Resource Centre, which is similar to the Labour Office in Hong Kong. This was my very first volunteer job. I enjoyed it. I learned how to deal with the public, I learned how to handle jobs, and I have built a good relationship with the place that I volunteer.

After the second year of University, I have become a leader at a local scout group. In this volunteer experience, I realized that I didn't have much experience dealing with children age from 7 to 10. And it was a challenge for me because I had to do program planning, research information for the program, and had to teach the children different stuff. I enjoyed it so much...not only because I have overcome those challenges, I have also met a lot of friends, age from 10 to 50 something. I especially enjoyed spending time after the meetings with other leaders since they are very close to my age. Well, with very little expectation, I actually met my husband there.=D

I believe volunteering helps people to grow up, enhances relationship between you and the public and other people, builds up the skills that you did not realize you have, and for the ones that doesn't have any work experience, this is a great chance for you to build up working experience. Even though these types of work are not paid, they are still considered to be working experience because the skills that you've learned is similar to the paid working experience.

If you haven't start volunteering, you should start now!

Act fast! ^_^ Hope you'll love volunteering as much as I do.
